Education Support
We urgently need funding to enable us to continue our Programs. All the money we raise goes directly to the charity's beneficiaries. No salaries or expenses are paid to administrators only local staff receive a salary.
NEED
- In the villages of Lam Asan, Lampineung, Lam Gapang, Lamboui and Kling, there are no day care facilities, kindergartens, playgroups, schools or community activities. The nearest kindergarten is two villages away and there is a primary school in the next village which closes at 12.30. The nearest secondary school is several villages away involving a 20 minute walk, followed by a 20 minute bus ride and finally another 30 minute walk. The kindergarten places are charged for, and little girls must have their hair covered and wear long sleeves and skirts - clothing which is too expensive for most parents. Primary and secondary school pupils must wear a uniform and pay for books.
- Primary and secondary education is free, but the uniforms (these are mandatory and represent 42 days' wages) are prohibitive and some parents send their children to work in the brick factories to cover extra costs of education. Higher education is not free and families are too poor to undertake the fees and travel costs to enable their children to attend facilities in the district.
- There are no prospects for alternative employment to the brick factories for most of the people in the region due to illiteracy and lack of typing and computer skills, which disqualifies them for a great many employment opportunities. The bus service finishes at 6pm.
