Secondary School Attendance Program

NEED

We could encourage families to send their children to school if we were to cover the costs associated with schooling. Most parents understand that education is the only way for their children to escape the cycle of poverty, but are unable to afford the costs associated with it or the wages which the children earn at the brick factory. There is a secondary school several villages away, involving a 20 minute walk, followed by a 20 minute bus ride and finally another 30 minutes walk, but the cost of the uniform, books and travel is prohibitive for most parents.

SCOPE

Chance International needs funding to give school uniforms to 100 of the poorest children in the 5 villages we work with. This would remove a huge burden from the families and allow the money to be used on food. We would like to approach this as a one off aid package to encourage families to send the children to primary school at the right age rather than the common practice of holding them back for a year, and to encourage the start of secondary education.

COSTS

It costs €56.00 to fund one child for this school year.
